Young people in the capital's northern districts of Elahiyeh and Ekhtiariyeh wrote extensive graffiti on walls Wednesday urging the public to join the 10-day anti-government protests in June, which the opposition has called for.
Mahabad, Iran, 13 May - Public outrage has spread throughout towns in Iran's Kurdistan Province following the hanging of five Kurdish prisoners of conscience over the weekend, an Iran Focus correspondent in the area reports.
Many shops remain closed in the provincial capital Sanandaj and elsewhere in Bukan, Saqqez, Kamyaran, Marivan and Mahabad. The strike was called on Monday after news of the executions spread.

The authorities in Iran have refused to allow the families of five Kurdish activists hanged on Sunday to bury them, and have arrested the sister and mother of the only woman among the executed, one of the activists' lawyers said Tuesday.
The sister and mother of the woman, Shirin Alamhooee, 28, were arrested at their home in the city of Makoo, in northwestern Iran, said the lawyer, Khalil Bahramian, in a telephone interview from Tehran. He also said the family was not even aware of the execution until Monday afternoon.

PARIS (AFP) — France on Wednesday called on Iran to immediately release jailed filmmaker Jafar Panahi and allow him to take his seat as a member of the jury at the Cannes film festival.
"He is one of the most eminent representatives of Iranian film and his place is at the festival where he has been invited as a member of the jury," said Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand in a joint statement.
Panahi, 49, has been held in Tehran's notorious Evin prison since March 1, when he was arrested by Iranian authorities, reportedly because he was making a film about the disputed 2009 presidential election.

RIYADH (AFP) — Gulf leaders meeting in Riyadh on Tuesday declined to comment on an alleged Iranian spy cell broken up in Kuwait but said the six-member group will face security threats as one.Gulf Cooperation Council secretary general Abdulrahman al-Attiyah said after a one-day summit of six Gulf leaders that they were leaving the issue of the busted spy cell to Kuwait to handle "for the moment.
